Recorded at Ev. Versöhnungskirche Kassel in late April 2025, 'Once The Evening' is rooted in the spacious textures of ambient Scandinavian Jazz and the warmth of Folk and Americana, bridging composition with the musical voices of each collaborator.

Zwei Musiker spielen in einem dunklen Raum, einer mit Saxophon, der andere mit Kontrabass, vor einem Mikrofon.

Inspired by the depth of nature, contemporary art & photography of the 21st century, the quartet shapes a sonic landscape that feels both personal and open-ended. Each piece invites for close listening, balancing structure and spontaneity while allowing space for the personalities of the collaborators to emerge. The result is a meditative yet emotionally resonant body of work that gently blurs the lines between composition and intuition, inner stillness and wide, cinematic horizons.

The album's standout tracks are 'Schwimmer', 'Hoppers Quiet America', 'Haven', 'Snow' and the title giving track 'Once the Evening is Spread Out Against the Sky', which feature a dynamic combination of Löcken's alto saxophone solos that hark back to jazz tradition, Deyß's forward-thinking effect-based comping, and the distinct sounds and musicality of Kolbe and Stefani.

'Requiem’, being the most experimental track on the album, features a solo rendition by Anton Deyß, showcasing his work with loops & effects. On 'Silver Pearl' — a reference to the colour of Deyß’s Fender Telecaster guitar pickguard — Martin Löcken and Anton Deyß present themselves as a heartwarming duo, tying the loop back to Americana and country-esque aesthetics of American music.

The cover painting is a painting called ‘Summer Evening Blue’ by the dutch painter Nuria Maria.

‘The moment I saw Nurias work for the first time I was extremely captivated by the way she uses her visual language and her choice of colours in a way that felt so emotional and absorbing to me. To this day, every time I see a painting by her, I simply cannot stop looking at it.’

Releases January 30th on Silberhall Records.
